dc.description.abstractBackground In the world today and particularly the developing world, 11.1 million young people between 1524 years are living with HIV/AIDS and estimates of up to 60% of all new HIV infections occur in the age group 1524 years as a result of immoral sexual practices like cross generational sex. This study thus assessed the factors influencing cross generation sex among youths in Nkumba university suburb. Methodology The study using a descriptive cross sectional design in which questionnaire were administered to 151 youths found the prevalence of cross generational sex among youths as 33.8%. It also found that all the youths knew cross generational sex as sex between old men and young girls (100%) and had negative attitude given that they viewed it as being a very disastrous behavior (44.4%) and moreover highly associated with HIV/AIDS. It also found that personal factors influencing cross generation sex among the youths as age (P = 0.000<5%), gender (P = 0.045 <5%), the age of sexual initiation (P= 0.000< 5%), employment status (P = 0.000< 5%), education level (P = 0.000 < 5%), religion (P = 0.000 < 5%), the need for money as facilitation (P = 0.000 < 5 and poverty. Results It was thus concluded that the prevalence of cross generational sex among youths was 33.8%, all the youths knew about cross generational sex and majority had negative attitude to it. It was also concluded that age, gender, the age of sexual initiation, employment status, education level, religion (P = 0.000 < 5%), the need for money as facilitation and poverty were the personal factors responsible for cross generational sex among the youths. Conclusion and recommendation The study therefore recommended among others that the Government should invest more into sensitizing the public about the dangers of cross generation sex majoring on its side effects and after effects and that income generating activities should be created for the youth so as to discourage indulging in cross generation sex in search for financial support from the older partners.en_US
