Assessment of the Performance of Vilage Health Teams in Rugaram Sub-County, Ntungamo District.

Abstract

Introduction This study was about establishing factors influencing the performance of village health teams in Rugarama Sub- county Ntungamo district. The main objective was to asses factors influencing performance of VHTs in Rugarama Sub-county Ntungamo district. Specific objectives of the study where to determine individual factors influencing performance of VHTs in Rugarama Sub-county, Ntungamo district, assess the influence of incentives on the performance of VHTs; determine the role of health system factors in the influence of performance of VHTs. Methodology the researcher adopted a cross sectional descriptive research methods; the researcher employed a questionnaire with both open ended questionnaires and closed ended questionnaires to gather data. From the study a key informative interview guide was used to obtain responses from the key informants. Results: The study findings revealed that there was a relationship between the independent variables which are individual factors, incentives and health system factors on the performance of Village Health Teams, Conclusion: performance of VHTs can be boosted if the incentives and transport allowances are increased plus adequate supervision and refresher training. Recommendation: The study recommends that to ensure sustainability and good performance of VHTs, it is important to improve on incentives given to VHTs especially transport refund in order for VHTs to respond promptly. Plus giving VHTs adequate refresher trainings and support supervision.
