Item Factors Influencing the Utilization of Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) Services Among HIV Positive Expectant Mothers:(International Health Sciences University, 2013-09) Winfred, NakaweesiIntroduction The study of the factors influencing the utilization of PMTCT was carried out in Mityana Town Council. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing the utilization of PMTCT of HIV/AIDS services among HIV positive expectant mothers in Mityana Town Council. General objective This study sought to determine the factors affecting utilization of PMTCT services among HIV positive expectant mothers in Mityana Town Council. Methodology A cross sectional correlation study design was used and data was collected using semi structured interviewer administered questionnaires from 174 HIV positive expectant mothers attending any one of the three selected health facilities in Mityana Town Council. Respondents were selected purposively. Data was analysed and computed using SPSS version 10. Results The level of utilization of PMTCT services among HIV positive expectant mothers in Mityana Town Council was 98.85%. 100% of the respondents were aware of the existence of PMTCT services and the main source of information was health facilities. The level of male involvement in PMTCT services was 61.49%. There was a high availability of PMTCT services in Mityana Town Council and 83.3% of the respondents rated the quality of PMTCT services as very good. Conclusion The study concluded that the level of utilization of PMTCT services in Mityana Town Council was very high (98.85%) and this was attributed to factors like knowledge, male involvement, availability and accessibility of the services.
